Media is an after school program located in Maui Waena Intermediate School, A-103 from 2:00pm to 4:45pm everyday, except Wednesday. This program is a big commitment.
Together we will learn the art of digital storytelling, of capturing the attention of the viewer and making them see the world through new eyes, our eyes.
Falcon Entertainment is a 8 year old program at Maui Waena Intermediate School which integrates the art of storytelling with technology. We participate in many exciting endeavors together.
Our primary project will be a partnership with Hiki No, a PBS run program in which middle and high school students from across the state will be able to work together in collaborative teams to create entire thematic shows centered around feature stories that showcase the Islands through the eyes of students.
We will also be competing in a number of contests, both local and national. These will consist of PSA’s and short movies.
Some students will be selected by merit and commitment to attend the national STN competition.
Most recently, in the summer of 2013, we became an official Student Reporting Lab. This is an exciting partnership with PBS Newshour that will allow our students to gain national exposure for their work. Our goal is to create a news story that is good enough to appear on the News Hour show or at least make it to the website. SRL provides us with mentorship, a wonderful curriculum, and a chance to really improve our news reporting skills. It will be a lot of work, but exciting and challenging.
We will also be applying our storytelling and media skills to create commercials and other promotional videos for community agencies and businesses.
Other projects will include covering local and school events.
Students will be encouraged to join the Media Club which will be hard work, time consuming, stressful, frustrating, and so much fun!
